A'Mauri Washington is the big body in the middle of Oregon's defensive line, and five games into 2026 he has started every one of them next to Bear Alexander, per the official box scores. At 6-3 and 330 pounds, his job is the unglamorous one: take on blockers, hold the point of attack, and let the edge rushers and linebackers make the tackles. Through UCLA he has 16 tackles and three passes defended, two of them against UCLA on Oct 10; the first came on third-and-1 on USC's final drive at the Coliseum (ESPN box scores).

The Impact
Interior defensive line play is invisible to casual fans and essential to winning. Washington is not the one piling up sacks. He is the one taking on the double team so Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti and the linebackers can run free, and the numbers that show his work are team numbers. At USC, the Trojans' running backs carried 26 times for 120 yards, and USC's raw rushing average of 3.6 was its worst of the season. In the opener, Boise State's backs managed 3.2 a carry. The exception was Oklahoma State, where Oregon gave up 244 rushing yards outside of sacks, the same night Washington left the game for a stretch and finished with 40 of 87 snaps.
