Ziyare Addison had played eight snaps of college football. Then Oregon made him the starting left tackle, and he found out the Friday before the opener.
Fox Crader started at left tackle against USC last November and was the presumed answer there again. Crader is at right tackle now. Addison started every game through USC, Oregon's official box score lists him among the line starters against UCLA on Oct 10, and he played every one of the 64 snaps against Boise State and led the whole team with 68 against Portland State, and he is protecting the blind side of a quarterback Oregon bought billboards for in Tokyo.
It has not been clean. That is the honest version and it is also the interesting one. See the line.

Since I’m out there and I’m a starter, I could be a first-round pick. So now I’m attacking it way harder, trying to learn all the ins and outs.

The Good Half
Against Boise State he played all 64 snaps and gave up three pressures, which for a first career start at left tackle is a quiet night, and quiet is the entire job description. Former Penn State lineman Landon Tengwall watched the tape and called the hand usage elite and said Oregon had its left tackle of the future. Dan Lanning has described him the same way twice: aggressive, powerful, athletic at the position, and then the part coaches only say when they mean it, that what changed this year was Addison calming down and playing rather than forcing things to happen.
He also went and asked Josh Conerly Jr., the left tackle Washington drafted in 2025, how to build a training routine. That is a redshirt freshman behaving like someone who intends to keep the job.
The Bad Half
Oklahoma State got four sacks and all four came off the tackles. Two of them were Addison, along with four pressures. Trojans Wire graded the whole line a D-minus for that game and wrote that both tackles had a case to answer about their job security, which is a columnist’s opinion rather than reporting, and it is not an unreasonable one after a 39-31 loss to a team that had not beaten an FBS opponent in 21 tries.
Portland State told us almost nothing. He led the team in snaps in an 84-0 game, which measures how long the starters stayed on the field more than it measures him.
What USC Showed
Before USC, the sample was one good night against a Mountain West opponent, one bad night on the road, and one blowout that did not count. The Coliseum against a 4-0 USC team was the first real look, and Oregon won it 41-27 with 504 yards of offense.
The thing worth watching is not whether he gets beaten. Every tackle gets beaten. It is whether the two sacks in Stillwater were a young player having a bad road game or a young player who has not yet met a rush he cannot handle.
Watch List for 2026
1
Pressure and sack numbers against the Big Ten edge rushers still on the schedule
2
Whether Oregon starts giving him help with a back or a tight end
3
Whether Fox Crader stays at right tackle or the staff reshuffles the two of them
Frequently Asked Questions
Ziyare Addison, a 6-5, 311-pound lineman from Tampa, Florida. He started every game through USC at left tackle, confirmed by published starting lineups, and Oregon's official box score lists him among the line starters against UCLA on Oct 10. See the depth chart.
Barely. He appeared in two games as a true freshman in 2025, playing at left tackle in both, and redshirted. Oregon’s official bio wording is ambiguous about whether that was four snaps or eight; most outlets report eight.
Fox Crader was the presumed starter there and moved to right tackle for 2026. No coach has said Addison beat a specific player out, so this is what the lineups show rather than a stated competition result.
Mixed. He allowed three pressures in 64 snaps against Boise State on Sept 5 and drew praise for his tape. At Oklahoma State on Sept 12 he allowed two of the four sacks Oregon gave up. Portland State was an 84-0 game that told us little.
