Chip Kelly left Oregon after the 2012 season to become head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. His final game was a 35-17 Fiesta Bowl win over Kansas State. He left with a 46-7 record at Oregon, the highest win percentage in program history at the time.
Oregon has had six head coaches since 2000: Mike Bellotti (1995-2008), Chip Kelly (2009-2012), Mark Helfrich (2013-2016), Willie Taggart (2017), Mario Cristobal (2018-2021), and Dan Lanning (2022-present). Each era reshaped the program in different ways.
By record, the Mark Helfrich era (2013-2016) ended with a 4-8 season in 2016, the worst in the modern era. But Helfrich also led Oregon to the 2014 CFP Championship game with Marcus Mariota. Even the "worst" era had a title game appearance.
