Oregon has not named its starting quarterback for Nebraska on Oct 17. Dylan Raiola started against UCLA on Oct 10 (Oregon's official box score) and went 6 of 19 for 43 yards with two interceptions; Brock Thomas replaced him on Oregon's first drive of the fourth quarter and went 11 of 15 for 156 yards and a touchdown in the 17-15 loss. After the game Dan Lanning said of Raiola: "He wasn't good enough today, I think he can acknowledge that. But we didn't prepare him to be good enough today. We didn't put him in positions to have success he needs to have." Dante Moore was OUT on all of Oregon's Big Ten availability reports for UCLA. Lanning said on Sept 27 that Moore sustained a concussion at USC on Sept 26, with clean MRI and CT scans; Oregon has not given a return date.

UCLA lost its starting quarterback at halftime, turned it over three times and drew nine flags, and Oregon still lost at Autzen with seven turnovers. The wolf from USC week did not show up.

Not fixed: ball security (seven turnovers), the run game (73 yards on 27 carries) and third down (1 of 12). The defense is the one unit playing like a contender.

Still unknown: when Dante Moore returns and who starts at quarterback against Nebraska (see the injury tracker). Our read: Oregon probably has to win out.

The next honest answer is Nebraska on Oct 17.

In August the case made itself: back-to-back CFP appearances, a Big Ten title in year one, 48-8 under Lanning. Then Stillwater took the benefit of the doubt: 39-31 to an Oklahoma State team that had not beaten an FBS opponent in 21 tries. The Coliseum gave some of it back. Then UCLA came to Autzen and Oregon gave it away seven times in a 17-15 loss. Two losses by a combined ten points, out of the AP Top 25, and the whole Big Ten season still in front of us. Below is what five games answered, and what they did not.

7 Turnovers Oregon committed against UCLA on Oct 10: five lost fumbles and two interceptions, in a two-point loss. Oregon went 1 of 12 on third down and ran for 73 yards. The defense took the ball away three times, blocked a field goal and held UCLA to 17. Nothing in that box score says this team is not good enough. Almost all of it says it beat itself. Unranked Where Oregon sits in the AP Top 25 for Week 7 (Oct 11, 2026), after opening the season at No. 2. It is No. 25 in the Coaches Poll. Six Big Ten teams are ranked: Ohio State 4, Indiana 5, UCLA 12, Iowa 17, USC 19 and Northwestern 25, and Oregon beat No. 19 USC on the road on Sept 26. 554-281 Oklahoma State outgained Oregon by 273 yards on Sept 12 and won the first-down count 25 to 12. Oregon led 31-30 early in the fourth, fell behind 36-31 with 10:21 left and then gained 11 total yards on its next three possessions. The upset ended a 21-game FBS losing skid for the Cowboys, and Oregon's national title odds roughly halved, from about 9.1 percent to 4.8. Yahoo Sports called it prove-it mode and questioned the team's toughness. Those are other people's words. The numbers underneath them are ours to answer. 3,565 Dante Moore's 2025 passing yards, with 30 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He turned down a projected top-of-the-draft slot to come back.

91 Oregon's overall rating in EA Sports College Football 27, the highest of any team in the game, ahead of Indiana and Ohio State at 90. The defense grades as the best unit in the game. Dante Moore is a 95, the top-rated quarterback in it, and he's on the cover. A video game is not a prediction, but it is a fair read on how much talent is in the building.

No. 3 Where the 2027 recruiting class sits nationally on the 247Sports Composite, with 25 commits, as of August 15, 2026, and unchanged when re-checked on Oct 11. First in the Big Ten. Stacked on top of a 2026 class that finished third and sent five five-stars to Eugene. Lanning is not borrowing this roster. He is building it.

97-43 Combined score of Oregon's last two CFP elimination losses (Rose Bowl 41-21 to Ohio State, Peach Bowl 56-22 to Indiana). The gap between 'very good' and 'champion' is defined by these two games.
