The Story

The 2024 class was the first signed entirely within the Big Ten era. It was the best in the conference and third-best nationally. The headline was Elijah Rushing, a five-star edge rusher from Arizona who chose Oregon over every program in the country. But the real story was the depth. 18 blue-chip prospects. Defensive linemen, linebackers, and secondary players who would fill the rotation spots that keep a defense fresh in November. When Oregon went 13-1, won the Big Ten Championship, and made the CFP in 2024, this class was the reason the defense held up across 14 games. When Oregon went 13-2 and made the CFP again in 2025, the 2024 recruits were sophomores anchoring the defensive rotation.

How They Performed

This class built the defense. Elijah Rushing is a projected first-round NFL Draft pick developing behind Matayo Uiagalelei. Brayden Platt and Dylan Williams added linebacker depth behind the starters. Ify Obidegwu became a rotational cornerback. The DL depth across multiple signees meant Chris Hampton could rotate eight or nine bodies without a dropoff. Oregon's defense held opponents to 17.9 PPG in 2025. That number does not happen without this class.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The 2024 class was #3 nationally and #1 in the Big Ten, the best in Oregon history at the time. It was surpassed by the 2025 and 2026 classes, but the 2024 class built the defensive depth that powered a Big Ten Championship and two straight CFP appearances.

The 2024 class provided critical depth for Oregon's 13-1 Big Ten Championship season. Elijah Rushing (EDGE), Aydin Breland (DL), and Peyton Woodyard (S) all saw action. Woodyard recorded the first true freshman stat in the Ohio State game.

Rushing is widely projected as a future first-round pick. At 6-6, 275 lbs, he has the size, speed, and pass-rushing ability that NFL scouts value. He is a major breakout candidate for the 2026 season, developing behind Matayo Uiagalelei.

Gatlin Bair, a five-star WR from Burley, Idaho, signed with Oregon in the 2024 class but left for a 2-year LDS mission. He returned and enrolled for spring 2026, competing in the WR room.
